Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) has cosponsored the Laken Riley Act, a bill aimed at addressing the issue of illegal immigrants charged with crimes. The legislation, introduced by Congressman Mike Collins (GA-10), seeks to ensure that such individuals are held in police custody. The bill is named after Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who tragically lost her life to a suspected murderer who had entered the U.S. illegally.

In addition to cosponsoring the federal bill, Congresswoman Tenney has also endorsed the New York State companion bill, known as "Laken's Law." This state-level bill, introduced by Senator Andrew Lanza and Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo, has garnered support from various officials representing NY-24, including Senators and Assemblymen.

Regarding the importance of these legislative measures, Congresswoman Tenney expressed her concerns, stating, "The tragic death of Laken Riley could have been avoided if President Biden and Albany Democrats had enacted strong border policies and ended the pro-criminal bail reform policies that have allowed these dangerous criminals back into our communities." She further emphasized the need for immediate action, urging President Biden and the New York State Legislature to prioritize the safety of American communities.

As the Laken Riley Act progresses through Congress, Congresswoman Tenney remains committed to advocating for stronger border security measures and policies that prioritize the safety of citizens.
